Tai Tung Alumni Recent
communications on the Tai Tung web site have raised a number of concerns
about the use and control of the site.
These have become disruptive to our Association and we feel compelled
to more formally set out our position.
The rules for use of the web site were established a number of
years ago and we would all benefit from reflecting on why they were
instituted. The
Tai Tung Association is essentially an alumni association designed to
assist old friends and classmates to keep in touch with each other and
to facilitate continuation of our friendships through various means.
Our primary focus has been on maintaining contact information
and holding local, regional and international meetings. The
point is we are a social organization. The introduction of a web site
is another tool to be used to further those social purposes.
We do not want to see our association becoming a vehicle for
other objectives, particularly political debate.
Politics is necessarily very subjective and divisive; people
become easily offended and are driven apart rather than together.
We do not deny the right to express political opinions but we
do not think the Tai Tung web site is the place for such discussion.
Too
few of us are skilled in computer use much less in web site management
and we need to encourage those who have the skills to do so and who
are prepared to volunteer their time.

B. Tai Tung Alumni are the only
permitted users of the web site.
